Geospatial Technology GIS Empowering The Growth of Smart Cities

The Smart City concept is a tech savvy way to address issues of unplanned urbanization.  While definitions vary according to the levels of deployment, scale, community aspirations, and geographies, certain underlying features clearly characterize a Smart City. A Smart City is based on knowledge and innovation, functioning 24 x7 in a cloud environment, for best citizen services and sustainable practices.

Land Planning

One the initial phases of Smart city development being land planning. With the help of GIS proper formulation and blueprint can be prepared based on site suitability analysis. A design can be prepared for layout in vector format and using 3D objects can be visualized the way they’re intended to come out even before starting with the development.

Data Collection

A database can be used to store, collect and visualize spatial data. Non-spatial can also be added in attribute data. This can be useful to better understand the vicinity, availability of resources, etc.

Decision Making

With the help of GIS which offers always connected ecosystem, the possibility of real time management and decision making for the concerned authorities becomes easier. A crisp and filtered picture is presented in front of the decision makers to plan their next plan of action.

GIS enables users to perform analysis using structured (digitized data in form of vectors) as well as non-structured data such as social information, excel, text and survey data. The analysis derives information related to various feasibilities in terms of basic amenities, utilities, etc.

Environmental Planning

GIS helps compare a great number of area-related data describing the affected natural resources and their sensitivity related to the effects of impacts. Because GIS can be used to couple area-related data with their attributes, and can be used to overlay these, it represents a highly efficient instrument for such planning tasks.

The primary goal of any utility is to plan and manage the use of facilities to deliver a commodity such as water, natural gas, or electricity to its customers. The utility industry has always relied on hardcopy maps to manage facilities, this is where GIS came into picture and it was natural that electric, gas, and water companies were among the first users of digital mapping software.

Some of the specific transportation applications of GIS include road design, highway mapping, and analysis of accident data and traffic. Since transportation is inherently a spatial activity, GIS is particularly well suited to be a platform for managing much of the data used in transportation applications.

Public Works

GIS improves productivity and efficiency by linking all divisions in a public works department—from engineering and traffic to accounting and call centres. With the ability of GIS to centrally host applications and data, streamlining workflow processes for work order, asset, and fleet management, as well as a myriad of other activities, while enhancing customer service becomes easier. Additionally, GIS helps organize, manage, and integrate geographic data from existing databases, including CAD data, and legacy applications to support fast and efficient visualization, analysis, and decision making, regardless of the amount of information an organization manages.

Geospatial intelligence Technology by VizExperts

VizExperts is a technology development firm in the realm of Geospatial Intelligence driven decision making. We at VizExperts believe in transforming data to decisions through a highly sophisticated and superior visual computing technology. In line with the objectives of Government of India, to accelerate indigenization of technology, our products have all been developed in-house, setting standards of excellence comparable and beyond what is offered elsewhere. VizExperts corporate philosophy is to provide unique and differentiated value to its clients resulting in interactive engagements and mutual partnership opportunities. Our list of clients includes various reputed Indian Government Organizations with whom we have worked on multiple projects using our 3D GIS technology and Digital Sand Model technology. Our R&D teams based out of Gurgaon and Bangalore have some of the best 3D GIS and visual computing talent in the country.

One of our principal focus areas has been GeorbIS®, our flagship 3D GIS technology, which enables geospatial intelligence driven decision making at organizations functioning in multiple domains. VizExperts GeorbIS has been certified compliant for WMS, WCS, WFS, WFS(T) services by the OGC® (Open Geospatial Consortium), the GeorbIS® platform now offers a unified platform for 3D geospatial data visualization, GIS analysis and multi-data fusion. GeorbIS comes with options for stand-alone desktop based systems and server based enterprise level systems. The platform also offers modular extensions called CartridGIS that offer advanced functionality and customized features, offering out-of-the-box usability. Custom interfaces are included for enabling real-time sensor data integration from the field.

GeorbIS Enterprise

GeorbIS Enterprise offers a centralized mechanism for collection and dissemination of data and information. It offers integration of distributed data sources and utilizing information made available through different channels. The entire data resides on the server hosted in-house and can be accessed easily through any web browser within the network and through internet. Enterprise solution is based on GIS framework which follows standard three tier architecture with separate user interface, computation and data management layers. It allows publishing of all standard 2D & 3D GIS data formats and multiple non-spatial data formats, viewing, support for data management and offers a high level of security for user and data access. Enterprise solution offers the liberty of visualizing the action plan from anywhere without physical presence as the plans are updated on the map throughout in near real-time. VizExperts offers functionality to customize end solution as its indigenous and well supported and developed by a local technology provider.

Digital Sand Model

DSM solution has been VizExperts oldest and the most sought after product by various defense, police, paramilitary, forest, disaster management, mining, municipal corporations and etc. establishments. DSM is a cutting-edge 3D GIS based solution for operation planning, briefing and training. The DSM technology is powered by the OGC certified GeorbIS® 3D GIS platform for GIS data ingestion. DSM offers true 3D visualization of all terrains including urban, rural, forest, mountainous and desert areas for operation planning. The Digital Sand Model software integrates organization specific workflows for training and operation planning, and includes built-in tools for creating a 3D geodatabase of an organization’s area of interest.

Intel is a Business Intelligence Cartridge which enables decision making through MIS data by visualization and analysis on a GIS map with the option to generate reports. It allows connecting and merging of spatial and non-spatial databases to fetch data through a single unified database. It offers one of its kind functionality to query data based on multiple parameters & time series and represent them on the terrain in the form of a bar graph on the GIS map which would help decision makers in making timely and accurate decisions and accordingly planning the actions.

Footprint provides live and offline sensor data integration such as GPS and communication, live weather sensors data, GPS tracking etc. at the same time offers functionality to integrate live video feeds coming in from a UAVs. VizExperts offers a highly intuitive user interface through its web application UAV management and video feed analysis. Multiple analysis can be performed on the snapshots captured from the live video feed coming from the UAV such as geo-location, distance and area measurement, annotations, etc. It includes functionality of sending emergency alerts as and when required.

Strategem is a module which aids in operation planning, analysis and training. It is a highly robust tool which helps in deployment and mobilization of resources at the same time provides analysis tools to capture range of sight for human eye, cameras, etc. The entire evacuation and mitigation plan can be prepared and animated such that the teams have a better understanding of the challenges on the ground and can move accordingly.
